A better summary i have not seen before.
Although beginners, like myself, do deserve fair treatment. I too get anoyed with the preoccupation with the over use of computers in filming/editing. Although i use a computer to type essays and communicate, without a computer I can still hand write essays and verbally talk to people.

Let me expand on my original post.

Yes, I realize that most of us are beginners. Babes in a world we're just now starting to comprehend. Hell, I don't even have a finished film. I'm all fucking talk.

But, instead of jumping the gun and putting exploding aliens in the fifth dimension with Winnie the Pooh and the Transformers, I'm concentrating on basics. Lighting, camera placement and movement, acting, etc.

Example: I experiment with camera placement everyday. Seeing what works, seeing what looks like crap. If and when I do an interior car scene, I know how I want to do it now.

Hey, if you want have Mt. Everest explode in your movie, go for it. It's YOUR movie. I'm not even gonna touch that stuff until I gain more experience and knowledge of the basics.

or we migth as well all give up after all sounds like wolfwood has got it all cracked....

or the guy hasnt got any balls, prefering to stick with the basics rathing than pushing what knowledge he does have to the limits and expanding each time ?

Who said I was sticking. I barely have a grasp of them in the first place. The basics, not my balls that is. i'm just making the point that you have to learn how to crawl before you can walk. If you feel you go from crawl straight to fly, then by all means do so.

But also his competition!

I do not know what movies and TV are like in that part of the world.

But I use my experience as a copy writer and the rules there of, when I am contemplating a project.

Watch TV commercials or rather study them as little movies.
